The Ogre choir, created in 1972, counts 50 male and female singers today.
Its repertoire is made up of a variety of styles from sacred music, ancient Latvian songs, scores from foreign composers to folk music and jazz.
In 1974, Janis Zirnis becomes the artistic director and choir conductor of this ensemble.
Under his direction, Ogre regularly plays abroad while participating in numerous choir gatherings and international festivals (Ukraine, Moldavia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Czech Republic.) Besides 2 gold medals, the choir has won its country’s Best National Costume Competition’s first prize.
